TU a top 100 “best value,” says Kiplinger’s

Towson University is one of 100 “best values in public colleges,” says Kiplinger’s Personal Finance whose list ranks four-year institutions that deliver a quality education at an affordable price.

“We applaud this year’s top 100 schools for their efforts to maintain academic standards while meeting the financial needs of their students,” says Janet Bodnar, editor of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.

In compiling the list, the financial magazine analyzes more than 500 public schools for both academic caliber—including admissions and retention rates, student-faculty ratios, test scores of incoming freshmen and graduation rates—and for financial aid availability and total cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board.

Recently, tuition at private colleges has cost an average $39,518 a year—a sharp contrast to Towson’s current tuition and fees of just over $7,900 for Maryland residents and $19,000 for out-of-state students.

The annual public school rankings appear in the February 2013 issue of Kiplinger’s, as well as on its website.
