Retired Towson faculty members reconnect

Retirement doesn’t mean severed ties for Towson University’s faculty. The provost’s office plans to form a retired faculty association to help keep valued former instructors in touch and involved with the university and with each other.

That plan was just one of many ways Towson warmly welcomed back dozens of retired faculty members and their guests at a luncheon in their honor last month.

Nearly 60 people gathered in the Potomac Lounge of the University Union to share updates, reminisce and learn about how Towson continues to grow and improve. Each dean provided updates on his or her respective college, and Towson University President Maravene Loeschke, Provost Timothy Chandler and Vice President of Advancement Gary Rubin shared the latest on where TU stands now and where it’s going.

“The lunch provided a wonderful opportunity for retired faculty to stay connected to the institution and meet up with many of their former colleagues,” Chandler said. “It provided the institution an opportunity to honor the many and varied contributions these extraordinary individuals made over the years, to Towson and its students.”

The guests also learned more about opportunities from the OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute and Towson’s plans for new and upcoming buildings and projects.

Mixed in with all the information was a slideshow featuring photos of the guests’ days as Towson faculty members. The guests dined on a three-course meal while a pianist played smooth jazz in the background, and they lingered long after the official end of the event to chat with each other and with the deans.
