Homecoming football game to be televised nationally

Football

A national audience will see the undefeated Towson squad take on Villanova.

The Towson University Homecoming football game, to be held Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in Unitas Stadium, will be broadcast on NBC Sports to a national audience.

The No. 3 Tigers will take on Villanova’s Wildcats, in its toughest test of the season. The No. 15 Wildcats were the preseason favorite to capture the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) crown and will bring a record of 3-2 (2-0 in the CAA) to Towson. The Tigers, meanwhile, are 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in the CAA, and have now won 10 consecutive games.

“This national telecast is tremendous positive recognition for our football team, our athletics program and the entire university community,” said athletic director Tim Leonard.

“I think it speaks volumes about our recent success and the direction our program is heading. Of course we want to pack Johnny Unitas Stadium Saturday night for Homecoming, but this telecast is a great opportunity for our out-of-state alumni and families, and fans across the country, to see just how good our football program has become. This type of national exposure not only helps with our efforts to recruit outstanding student-athletes, it helps the university as a whole attract more academically gifted students.”

The game is the final marquee event for Towson’s Homecoming Week. Students, alumni and fans will begin the Homecoming Tailgate at 4 p.m. in Lot 14. The TU Alumni Association’s Hospitality Area, featuring food, conversation and giveaways, will be held in the Auburn Pavilion from 3 to 7 p.m.
