Men’s basketball remains unbeaten at home

Led by seniors Jerelle Benimon and Rafriel Guthrie, the Tigers won three games at SECU Arena last week. They first knocked off local rival UMBC on Tuesday, 75-60, then took both contests in the Battle 4 Atlantic Mainland over the weekend, defeating Citadel and Abilene Christian.

With a record of 6-2 on the season, Towson has a week off to prepare for a road trip to Texas as part of the Lumberjack E-Tech Classic where the Tigers will face Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State this weekend.

Women’s basketball tops UMBC

LaTorri Hines-Allen and  Markell Smith combined for 32 points to lead the Tigers to a 64-57 win over UMBC on Tuesday night in SECU Arena. The victory was the Tigers’ second of the season, improving to 2-4.

This week, the Towson women travel to face Bucknell on Dec. 4 and George Washington to Dec. 7 before returning to SECU Arena to face LIU Brooklyn on Dec. 9.

Football to host Fordham in FCS Playoffs

Coach Rob Ambrose and the Tigers rested during the holiday weekend, having earned a bye through the first round of the FCS Playoffs. Towson’s second-round match up was decided Saturday when the Fordham Rams defeated Sacred Heart, 37-27, to advance in the national championship tournament.

The seventh-seeded Tigers will host Fordham on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. at Unitas Stadium. Tickets are on sale beginning Monday, Dec. 2.

Although the student tickets are priced at $10 each, the first 1,000 students can purchase discounted tickets courtesy of Towson University’s Student Government Association. The SGA will be discounting tickets by $5. The first 1,000 student tickets can be purchased for $5 while the supplies last.

Students are encouraged to buy their tickets early. The last time the Tigers hosted an NCAA FCS playoff game in 2011, the game sold out. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
