Tigers to host football signing event at Charles Village Pub

Towson in national championship

The Towson Tigers reached the NCAA FCS National Championship game for the first time in program history.

Towson’s football program welcomes its next crop of Tigers Wednesday.

The program will host a signing day event at Charles Village Pub in Towson. The event, which kicks off at 6 p.m. is free and open to the public.

Head coach Rob Ambrose and his staff will announce freshman commitments, show highlight videos and talk about the 2014 recruiting class, which could include up to 20 freshmen, transfers and other students joining the program prior to the spring semester.

Ambrose has been on the recruiting trail since the wheels touched down at BWI following January’s trip to the NCAA FCS title game, where the Tigers fell to defending champion North Dakota State. The Tigers had already stormed to a program-best 13-3 record. In Division I, only NDSU and BCS champion Florida State posted more wins.

“The standard rule for recruiting is that you want to make each recruiting class a little better than the last one,” Ambrose said. “We continue to move in the right direction.”

Through freshmen and transfers, Ambrose has to fill gaps opened by the departure of seniors like quarterback Peter Athens, defensive tackle Arnold Farmer and center Doug Shaw, as well as junior running back Terrance West, who has declared early eligibility for the NFL draft.
