Towson men’s basketball wins CIT opener in dramatic fashion

Sophomore Four McGlynn hit a game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer from half court, lifting the Towson men’s basketball team to a 63-60 come-from-behind win over South Carolina Upstate Wednesday night in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT).

The Tigers, who trailed by 13 points at halftime, took a 60-58 lead with seven seconds remaining in regulation on a driving layup by senior Jerrelle Benimon. After the Spartans tied the contest with just two seconds left on the clock, McGlynn nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer from 45 feet away to give TU its first ever postseason victory.

Benimon led the Tigers with 20 points and nine rebounds. Fellow seniors Marcus Damas and Mike Burwell added 11 points apiece.

Towson, now 24-10 on the season, advances to the second round of the CIT this weekend. The Tigers will most likely play on the road Friday night against an opponent yet to be determined.
