TU4U event draws nearly 3,000 students and parents to campus

Some parents looked a little sad at the prospect of their child heading off to college, but most of the nearly 3,000 mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who attended TU4U were beaming with pride.

TU4U, a two-day event held in SECU Arena last week, orchestrated a campus-wide effort to engage admitted students and entice them to choose Towson for their college education. The prospective students met current TU students, faculty and staff on hand as volunteer “ambassadors,” who without fail displayed great passion and enthusiasm for TU.

The university’s seven colleges, as well as dozens of student groups and academic and administrative departments, had representatives on hand to answer questions from students and parents. Student ambassadors also participated in a Q&A program and provided campus tours, and a special hospitality suite offered information tailored to the unique needs of Towson’s transfer students. Featured speakers included President Maravene Loeschke and Football Head Coach Rob Ambrose.

The result was the biggest admitted student event in university history. Approximately 160 high school students decided to submit enrollment contracts on the spot and the social media reaction from other attendees was overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic:

“Just left TU4U and I put my deposit down today!!! So excited for the fall!!!”

“I just got back from Towson yesterday and immediately fell in love, which means I need a roommate! I’m super excited for college and being on my own.”

“Went to TU4U today and handed in enrollment. So excited!”

“After TU4U yesterday I’m set on going to Towson to study computer science!”

“Is it just me or was Coach Ambrose totally the best part of TU4U!? I am so pumped for some Tiger football!”
