Towson University juniors or seniors who attend classes for certain programs in Baltimore County but live in the northeastern part of the state may transfer to the new Towson University in Northeastern Maryland location to reduce their commute or live at home.

Six programs will be offered at the new Towson University in Northeastern Maryland location in the fall. The deadline to apply is July 18. TU in Northeastern Maryland Director John Desmone says the goal is to gear the academic programs toward the workforce demand in the region, growing the number of offerings to 12-15 in the next five to seven years.

This fall, the location offers degrees in business administration (management concentration), early education/special education, elementary education/special education, information technology, psychology, and sociology (criminal justice concentration).

“We are looking at the health care and social services sector, along with additional liberal arts majors,” Desmone says. “We expect at least one new program to be online in the fall of 2015,” Desmone says.

The northeastern Maryland location’s main goal is to serve the region with programs to allow four-year degrees without long commutes. It is the only institution in the region to do so.

“We have developed this partnership to enable students in northeast Maryland to benefit from the great strengths of Towson while staying close to home,” says Towson University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Tim Chandler.

Freshmen and sophomores currently attending classes in Towson can also transfer, choosing to get an associate degree at HCC or Cecil College and then transferring to TU in Northeastern Maryland.

All the necessary courses will be offered in Harford County. The new facility is at 510 Thomas Run Rd. in Bel Air, just across the street from the Harford Community College campus. Tuition for the Bel Air location is the same as it is in Towson, but fees are substantially less. There are also no parking fees in Bel Air.
