Tigers ready for a “Gold Rush” in season opener Saturday at 6

Head coach Rob Ambrose leads the Tigers onto the field for Saturday's home opener against Delaware State.

Head coach Rob Ambrose and the Towson Tigers will take on Central Connecticut in the 2014 season opener.

Tigertown is getting ready for a “Gold Rush” on Saturday as Towson hosts Central Connecticut in the 2014 football season opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Unitas Stadium.

Fans are encouraged to wear their gold Towson apparel to help open the new season. Adding to the atmosphere will be an enhanced team introduction featuring fireworks, a new Tiger head inflatable and gold smoke.

The stadium will also feature more updates this season. A new “Towson Athletics Wall of Excellence” will display the accomplishments of all Tiger teams that compete at Unitas Stadium. Fans will also notice a large shield outside the field house to represent last season’s FCS national runner-up finish.

The atmosphere before games has also been improved, as Towson has enhanced the Tiger tailgating experience. There will be more fan inflatables, new obstacle courses and cornhole games in the tailgate lots. A prize will be awarded for the best and most spirited tailgate. Fans will also have the opportunity to take pictures with the FCS championship finalist trophy.

For those fans who don’t have their gold gear yet, the UStore at the University Union will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with plenty of gold apparel available for Saturday’s game.

The “Gold Rush” isn’t the only happening Saturday. Former Towson gymnast and American Ninja Warrior finalist Kacy Catanzaro will make an appearance at halftime. She will be accompanied by Tigers’ gymnastics coach Vicki Chliszczyk and members of the TU gymnastics program.

Catanzaro will speak briefly about her achievements on “American Ninja Warrior.” Her next appearance on the show will be Monday, Sept. 1.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are still available. Like all home Towson events, student tickets are free and will be available Saturday at the student gate starting at 4:30 p.m. Non-student tickets are still available and can either be bought at the Unitas Stadium box office, or ordered online through towsontigers.com.
