TU’s Family Weekend has big plans for Saturday

Towson University will be extra busy on Saturday, Sept. 20 as the campus continues with its annual Family Weekend events.

Students and their families will be able to enjoy a variety of different events found on a college campus. These include athletic events, special performance arts events, dinner programs, information sessions and the ability to experience firsthand some of the campus services regularly provided to students.

Students and their families will populate campus during Towson University's annual Family Weekend.

“This is a really festive time for our students and their families to enjoy this great campus,” said Joyce Herold, Family Weekend advisor and coordinator of off campus student services in Student Activities. “And it’s a great time for parents, siblings, aunts and uncles to show pride in their student and support their college career.”

Saturday begins with the Towson Parent Conference, which includes sessions that help parents understand the challenges of being a college student. Topics include academics, finances, being supportive, making new friends and working with stress. The parent conference will be held on the third floor of the University Union.

Other highlights during Saturday morning will be the Honors College Family Breakfast, which will also showcase the work of Honors College students. Families will also be able to experience the university swimming pool, climbing wall and fitness center as Campus Recreation Services will open its’ facilities at Burdick Hall.

In the evening, families will be able to cheer on the Towson Tigers football team as they host North Carolina Central at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m. Before the game, families and fans will enjoy the annual Maryland-style crab feast at the Towson Center. Tickets are still available for the football game, but registration for the crab feast has passed.

Another highlight of Saturday is the dual performances of Ailey II, the world-renowned production from the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Stephens Hall Theatre. Tickets are still available for both shows (tickets.tuboxoffice.com).

A comprehensive schedule of events and more details are available at the Family Weekend website or on Towson’s events webpage.
