Tigers stymied by Stony Brook defense, fall to Seawolves 14-3

Sophomore linebacker Jordan Mynatt became the first Towson football player in the Rob Ambrose era to record a sack, a forced fumble and an interception in the same game. But it wasn’t enough as Stony Brook held the Tigers out of the end zone and escaped Johnny Unitas® Stadium with a 14-3 win on Saturday afternoon.

Towson, which forced a season-high three turnovers, dropped its second straight contest to fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

Redshirt freshman James Simms paced the Tiger defense with 11 tackles, while junior Christian Carpenter added 10 stops. Senior Tye Smith recorded nine tackles while also registering his first interception of the season.

The Tigers’ offense managed just 242 yards of total offense. Junior quarterback Connor Frazier threw for 137 yards (completing 17 of 29 attempts) while also picking up 39 yards on the ground. Sophomore running back Darius Victor gained 59 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Towson hits the road next Saturday to take on James Madison. The game, set to kickoff at 12:30 p.m., can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet (CSN) and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Radio 1300-AM.
