Towson alumnus Tim Williams featured in Baltimore Magazine

Towson University alumnus and WJZ meteorologist and weekend morning anchor Tim Williams was profiled in the January 2015 issue of Baltimore Magazine.Tim Williams

The full article covered his eclectic career and culinary histories. Williams was accepted into the Fashion Institute of Technology before enrolling at Towson University and graduating with a degree in communication.

After working in sales, Williams returned to school to pursue broadcast journalism. A stint in Jacksonville, Florida that netted him a regional Emmy nomination gave way to a return to Maryland as a nightside reporter and occasional substitute weatherman in 1995.

Upon earning his meteorology degree in 2006, he was one of the first black meteorologists in Baltimore. Williams has worked at WJZ-TV for 20 years, and he notes the difficulties in forecasting weather in Maryland.

“If you’re in the northern part of the U.S., it’s always cold; if you’re in the west, it never changes, but in Maryland, you have mountains, and it can be 70 degrees here, but 40 degrees on the other side—and the ocean and bay complicate everything. Here, you get tropical storms, but also hurricanes, and tornadoes, and blizzards, and every doggone thing—it’s like a boot camp for weather people!”
