Hussman Center partners with The Arc Baltimore to host Sprout Film Festival

2014-Sprout-web-event-page-headerTowson University’s Hussman Center for Adults with Autism will partner with The Arc Baltimore to present The SPROUT Film Festival on Saturday, February 14.

The festival is a presentation of short films and music videos by and about people with developmental disabilities.

The screening will start at 2 p.m., at Towson University’s West Village Commons. Tickets to the film festival are free for Towson University students and faculty. Non-students and faculty can purchase tickets for $5 by calling the Towson University Box Office, 410-704-2244. Free parking will be available on-site at the West Village Parking Garage.

The two-hour event will feature 11 short films that include people with autism and other developmental disabilities, and the films were specially selected to be a great choice for Valentine’s Day.

Founded in New York in 2003, the SPROUT Film Festival “is designed to raise the profile of individuals with developmental disabilities — both as artists engaged in film-making and as subjects of insightful and entertaining films,” says The Arc Baltimore’s Executive Director Stephen H. Morgan.

This marks the second year in which The Arc Baltimore and Towson University have joined to present the festival to local audiences.

“Towson’s Hussman Center for Adults with Autism is very pleased to collaborate with The Arc Baltimore for the SPROUT Film Festival again this year,” said Charlotte Exner, executive director of the Hussman Center. “The Hussman Center welcomes the opportunity to support this film festival as the films directly involve people with disabilities portraying their experiences and lives and honors differences—while also, importantly, being an event that is inclusive and fun for all.”

The Arc Baltimore is co-sponsoring the film festival with Towson University’s Hussman Center for Adults with Autism and in conjunction with Towson University’s Mass Communications & Communication Studies and Electronic Media & Film departments and Towson University’s Disability Support Services.
