Towson U roars into Homecoming Week

Homecoming is always a joyous time to be on campus, but this year there is a little bit more to celebrate. Towson University will celebrate its 150th anniversary during this year’s homecoming festivities.

There are a lot of fun-filled activities planned for Homecoming week, with everything leading up to the Towson Tigers’ football team taking on nationally ranked Villanova on Saturday night.

Here is a preview of some of key events happening during Homecoming week:

MONDAY

Talent Show featuring Trend Models
8 p.m. at Stephens Hall Theatre

Come check out all the talent on campus with the annual Homecoming talent show. This event will feature a number of students showcasing what makes them special.

TUESDAY

Modelz of Distinction Homecoming Fashion Show
7-11 p.m. at West Village Commons

A charity fashion show with the theme “Kaleidoscope Dreams.” Towson students can enhance their imaginations through a set of scenes put on by designers and stylists from along the East Coast.

Day of Play Kickball tournament
11 a.m. at Burdick Field

Come get your kicks in with a campus-wide kickball tournament.

WEDNESDAY

Homecoming Block Party and Pep Rally
6:30 p.m. at Newell Field

Come out and show your support for the Towson football team and Head Coach Rob Ambrose during the sixth-annual Homecoming block party and pep rally. There will games, activities, food, vendors and a live DJ in the middle of campus. There will also be giveaways throughout the night and a chance to meet the players and staff of your Towson Tigers!

THURSDAY

Homecoming T.G.I.T.
Starting at 11 a.m. at Freedom Square

If you are walking to class on Thursday, stop by Freedom Square and grab a treat: cider, hot chocolate, candy and an assortment of other goodies will be available. You can also snap a selfie with Doc to celebrate Towson’s 150th anniversary. Don’t forget to tag it #TU150!

Roaring 150th Homecoming King and Queen Pageant
8 p.m. at West Village Commons

Meet the nominated members of the 2015 Homecoming Court. Each nominated student will participate in costume, talent and question and answer portions as they compete for your votes to become Towson’s 2015 Homecoming King and Queen.

FRIDAY

Homecoming 150th Photo Celebration
2 p.m. at the CLA Field

Join in on a class picture taken by Towson’s favorite photographer: Kanji! Along with the marching band, students will gather to outline the number 150 to commemorate the university’s 150th anniversary. There will be free 150th t-shirts handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

SATURDAY

Tiger Trot — Homecoming 5K
8:30 a.m. at Towsontown Field

Celebrate Towson University’s 150th anniversary by participating in the first Homecoming 5K. Join your fellow Tigers as you race (or walk) through campus. Students, alumni, parents, friends, family and community members are encouraged to participate. For more information, or to register, visit the Tiger Trot home page.

Tailgating Festivities
Starting at 3 p.m. at the Towson Athletic Complex

Come join in on all the pre-game festivities around Unitas Stadium. Tailgating begins at 3 p.m. in the parking lots surrounding the stadium, including the Family Fun Zone in lot 21. There will then be a special alumni cornhole tournament located on SECU Plaza starting at 3:30 p.m.

At 4 p.m. in the Towson Center, come get a special first look at the Towson men’s basketball team. Head Coach Pat Skerry is opening practice for all Tiger fans.

Then get outside to cheer the football team to the locker room during the newest Towson tradition: The Tiger Walk. The team will arrive to campus at 4:30 p.m.

After that, watch the Towson volleyball team take on Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe Elon. The action starts at 5 p.m. at SECU Arena.

Towson vs. Villanova, Homecoming Game
Kickoff 7 p.m. at Unitas Stadium

Come cheer on the Tigers as they take on the No. 23 Villanova Wildcats. After the game, stay for a special fireworks display celebrating Homecoming and the university’s 150th anniversary.
