This week, the Towson University Veterans Center launches its sixth annual Stuff-a-Bus campaign to support Toys for Tots, a nonprofit that gives toys to children in need during the holiday season.
The bus, adorned with garland and holiday ornaments, will be parked on Osler Drive from Dec. 2-12. Donations can be placed in any of the 45 decorated boxes marked “Toys for Tots” across campus. Volunteers will also be at the bus to accept donations during the day.
“The TU community has been so supportive of this toy drive every year,” says Patrick Young, drive chairman and Towson University veterans services coordinator. “All we ask is that you keep us in mind when holiday shopping this year. Even just one toy can go a long way for a child during this season.”
Once again, the Ken Ebo Jazz Orchestra will perform a benefit concert at the Center for the Arts to support the toy drive. The concert will be held on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Harold J. Kaplan Concert Hall. Admissions for the event is one food item or one new, unwrapped toy.
On Dec. 13, the bus will be dispatched to the Marine Corps warehouse and the Maryland Food Bank so the food and toys can be distributed in time for the holidays.
The boxes for this year’s drive were donated by Home Depot.
Opportunities are available to volunteer as part of the toy drive. Those interested should contact Patrick Young at pyoung@towson.edu.
