The Maryland chapter of the Public Relations Society of America has named Lester R. Potter, a senior lecturer in Towson’s Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies, the 2013 PRSA-MD Educator of the Year.
The award recognizes and honors undergraduate and graduate public relations/communications professors that are excellent instructors and education leaders in their schools and communities.
Potter, an MBA, teaches a number of public relations and communications courses for Towson, and has served as the faculty adviser for the on-campus student chapter of the PRSA for the last 10 years. He is also all but dissertation (ABD) for a doctorate in Instructional Technology.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award,” says Potter.
“I dearly love what I do here at Towson. As an instructor in the Mass Communication department, PR track, everything I do is to help my students have a successful and happy career in communication and public relations. I am truly blessed to be able to work with these fine young people, my excellent colleagues and the entire community of Towson University.”
Potter has more than 30 years of industry expertise. Prior to coming to Towson, he was founder and president of Les Potter Inc., a consulting firm for the strategic communications of businesses and organizations around the world. He is also involved with the International Association of Business Communicators, Kappa Delta Pi and the Association of Educators in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Potter will be honored at the PRSA’s Best in Maryland Awards Gala on Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Hotel Monaco Baltimore. Former FOX morning anchor Jennifer Gladstone will emcee the event, which will feature a keynote address from Towson alumnus Gerry Sandusky, voice of the Baltimore Ravens and sports director of WBAL-TV.
