Towson University Honors College Dean Joe McGinn is leaving Towson in the spring to take the provost’s position at the University of Maine at Farmington. Below is a statement from Towson University Provost Timothy J. L. Chandler.
It is with great pride, tinged with a hint of sadness, that I pass along the news that Joseph P. McGinn, dean of the Honors College and professor of philosophy here at Towson University, has accepted the position of provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Maine at Farmington (UMF). Dr. McGinn will stay on at Towson until some time after the Honors College convocation on May 3, 2014. He will assume his new role at UMF effective July 1, 2014.
Dr. McGinn joined the Towson University family in 2011 after previously serving as director of the Global Honors program at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. He was also a Commonwealth Scholar at Edinburgh University in Scotland. Dr. McGinn earned his Ph.D. in philosophy at the Pennsylvania State University; an M.A. in philosophy at the University of Waterloo (Canada); and a B.A. in philosophy and history at the University of Manitoba.
In her announcement to the UMF community, UMF President Kathryn A. Foster said, “Dr. McGinn brings an impressive combination of intellectual savvy and leadership experience to UMF. Friendly, thoughtful, approachable, diplomatic, principled, professional, and academically sophisticated, Dr. McGinn is a careful listener and articulate communicator who has already shown great knowledge of and enthusiasm for UMF, Western Maine and the University of Maine System.”
We wish Dr. Joe McGinn and his wife nothing but success and happiness at UMF.
