Towson Athletics announces new partnership with CBS Radio

Coach Rob Ambrose and the Towson Tigers take on North Dakota State for a shot at the FCS National Championship

Fans will be able to hear every game of the 2014 football season on CBS Sports Radio 1300-AM. The station will also broadcast the entire men’s basketball regular season.

Towson Athletics is back on the air!

On Tuesday afternoon, Towson University announced it will partner with CBS Sports Radio 1300-AM, allowing the Baltimore-based radio station to broadcast every Tiger football and men’s basketball game during the 2014-2015 season.

Along with the live broadcast, Towson head football coach Rob Ambrose and head men’s basketball coach Pat Skerry will make weekly appearances on CBS Sports Radio’s sister station, The Fan 105.7-FM.

Towson Athletic Director Tim Leonard said the partnership not only adds another outlet for Tiger athletics, but also strengthens its presence in the Baltimore area.

“This partnership really establishes Towson University as Baltimore’s university,” Leonard said. “We are the college sports program of this market. This strengthens our brand and expands our audience and aligns us with the best media partner in this market.”

CBS Sports Radio 1300 offers around-the-clock sports coverage and programming, including programs hosted by national sports personalities Jim Rome, Doug Gottlieb and Tiki Barber.

CBS Radio, Baltimore’s Vice President of Programming Dave Labrozzi believes the addition of Towson athletics will be a cornerstone piece to the station’s local sports’ profile.

“This is a perfect partnership, and we are all about local sports,” Labrozzi said. “This solidifies what we do. We couldn’t be more excited or thrilled to be joining with Towson University, especially with all the great things happening there.”

Both football and men’s basketball programs are coming off banner years. The Tiger football team won a school record 13 games and is coming off an appearance in the NCAA FCS National Championship game.

Ambrose, an alumnus of Towson and a Maryland native, said he understands the the significance of joining CBS Sports Radio 1300.

“This is one of the more amazing things for me personally,” Ambrose said. “Being an alum of this institution, knowing what CBS Radio has been about for so long. The fact we are now joining a partnership with something so strong, something so amazing, something that screams athletics in the Baltimore metro area and all across the state really, and to be tied to such a great partner, it kind of sends you a little bit of chills. It really does shine a spotlight on all things Towson.”

In just his third year with the program, Skerry led the men’s basketball program to 25 wins last season, including two wins in the CIT post-season tournament. This was the most wins for the university since joining Division I.

With this platform for the athletic department, Skerry believes both programs will be a good representation of all the positive things happening at Towson University.

“Our university, and our athletics program as a front porch for the university, are on the rise,” Skerry said. “Joining with CBS, a marquee name, it really permeates that. We are on our way up, and we know the sky is the limit.”

Longtime voice of the Tigers Spiro Morekas will anchor coverage for both programs, with the first live broadcast being held on Aug. 30 as Towson hosts Central Connecticut in the football season opener.
