The Daily Record has honored Nancy S. Grasmick with a 2014 Innovator of the Year award. The award celebrates Marylanders and Maryland-based companies for their innovative spirit.

Grasmick, a former Maryland state superintendent of schools, now serves Towson University as presidential scholar for innovation in teacher and leader education. She is also a Towson alumna.

She received the award for All SySTEMs Go, a coordinated, fully integrated research-based approach to launch Maryland students on a college and career pathway in science, technology, engineering and mathematics

Since assuming her post in March 2012, Grasmick has worked tirelessly to transform Towson’s teacher preparation and early career support program into a national model, one that will produce effective educators with the knowledge and commitment to prepare students for success in a challenging industry.

“This year’s Innovators of the Year are on the cutting edge,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of The Daily Record. “They represent the best of Maryland in diverse fields such as technology, education, health care and community work.”

The Daily Record’s Innovators of the Year will be recognized at an awards event to be held Oct. 15 at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.
