Dear Towson University Community:
We want to make you aware of a recent situation regarding campus safety.
A Towson University student alerted authorities about a potential threat to the university campus made via a social media platform. The Towson University Police Department (TUPD) immediately contacted local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including Baltimore County Police, Maryland State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). As a result of these cooperative and collaborative efforts, in less than 24 hours the person responsible for making the threat was identified and subsequently taken into custody. A thorough investigation is continuing, however, at this time it has been determined that there is no longer a threat to the university community.
Any threat to the university is taken very seriously and can be considered a state and/or federal crime. We are very grateful for the quick-thinking and responsible actions of our students and staff who brought this matter to the university’s attention and for the efforts of all of the law enforcement agencies involved.
