Towson University’s student-athletes boast the top federal graduation rate among the five Division I University System of Maryland (USM) schools, according to the Division I Graduation Rates Report, released by the NCAA last week.
Student-athletes at Towson continue to graduate at a rate higher than the general student population. According to the report, 64 percent of all students that entered TU as freshmen between 2004-2007 graduate while 71 percent of all student athletes-graduated.
The report also revealed that Towson holds the top Federal Graduation Rate for African-American student athletes among the five Division I USM schools. Additionally, Towson baseball and women’s basketball were ranked at the top of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for their Federal Graduation Rate scores.
“I’m thrilled with the findings in the latest NCAA Graduation Rates Report,” said Towson Director of Athletics Tim Leonard. “It just goes to show that the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches and administrators is paying off. While we continue to make strides on the playing fields, academics will always be a priority here at Towson University and this report further exemplifies that.”
Tiger student-athletes also earned an 81 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR). GSR is a four-class measure of freshmen and transfer student-athletes who began full-time enrollment between fall 2004 and spring 2008.
Towson women’s golf, gymnastics, women’s soccer and women’s tennis each earned perfect GSR scores.
