The Towson University women’s indoor track and field team wrapped up the first week of the indoor season at the New Year Invitational hosted by Princeton University on Sunday.
Junior Kaitlyn Davis finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds. Her time is the fifth-fastest in school history for the event.
Sophomore Zanae Freeland ran a 7.75 in the 60m dash, the third-fastest in school history and placed fourth in the event. Freeland also placed seventh in the 300m dash.
Senior Ashley Simmons finished second for the Tigers in the 3000m run, while Wilhelmina Austin finished fifth in the triple jump.
The Towson pole vaulters also had a strong showing. Maggie Rampolla (fourth), Courtney Rose (fifth) and Brynn Warrington (seventh) all finished in the top 10.
The Tigers will take a break from competition for final exams and the holiday season. They will return to action on Jan. 24 when they travel to Bucknell.
Swimming and Diving teams wrap up Winter Nationals
The Towson men’s and women’s swimming & diving squads finished up the 2014 year at the 2014 AT&T Winter Nationals at the Greensboro Aquatics Complex on Saturday.
The men’s team was led by senior Matt Lowe, who finished 19th in the 1650-yard freestyle. Fellow senior Jon Burr placed 38th in the event.
Junior Matt McKenney placed 39th in the 200-yard butterfly, while sophomore Nick Breschi finished 66th in the 200-yard backstroke.
The women’s team was led by Charlotte Holz, who swam a lifetime best in the 200-yard backstroke to place 44th. She was timed at 1:59.51.
Senior Victoria Oslund had an impressive swim in the 200-yard butterfly, placing 28th with a time of 2:00.85. Sophomore Macey Arnold wrapped up the meet for the Tigers, finished 32nd in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Both teams will travel to the two-day Tennessee Diving Invitational on Jan.2. Towson will return home on Jan. 10 to host McDaniel.

- The men’s basketball team fell 78-46 at Georgetown on Sunday afternoon. Four McGlynn and John Davis led the Tigers with 10 points each. Towson will be back in action this Wednesday it travels to Philadelphia to face Temple. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Radio 1300-AM and seen on ESPN3.
- The women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome No. 15/10 University of Maryland, falling 81-52 on Sunday. LaTorri Hines-Allen had a game-high 21 points in the loss. Towson is off for 11 days and will return to action on Dec. 18 when it travels to Wake Forest.
