Maggie Reitz has been appointed interim provost, Timothy J.L. Chandler announced today. Her appointment follows last week’s action by University System of Maryland Chancellor William E. “Brit” Kirwan, who appointed Chandler as interim president following the resignation of Maravene Loeschke as president on Dec. 19. Reitz had been serving as acting provost and vice president for the Division of Academic Affairs since August 21.
An alumna and longtime faculty member, Reitz was named the university’s vice provost in November 2013 and assumed those responsibilities last January following the retirement of James DiLisio. Reitz earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in occupational therapy from Towson University before completing her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland. She had served for 15 years as chair of Towson’s Department of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science and was also director of the department’s professional master’s degree program.
Before returning to Towson as faculty, Reitz had spent 10 years practicing occupational therapy at Greater Southeast Community Hospital in Washington, D.C.
The provost and vice president for academic affairs provides leadership and is responsible for the oversight of all academic programs and services at the university.
