C. Milton Wright High School teacher Laura Potter ’05 works magic with her math students, whose nominations earned the Towson University graduate Harford County Teacher of the Year on March 26.
The 11-year education veteran has worked in Harford County for two years. Six of her students wrote essays to share her enthusiasm and dedication to the subject and her classes. Former student Ryan Pellegrino wrote “she does the impossible; she makes Calculus appealing, let alone bearable. I looked forward to her class every day.”
Potter earned her master’s degree in education from TU and is the acting mathematics department chairperson and member of the school improvement team. Her students posted a 100 percent passing rate on the algebra/data analysis high school assessment in 2013, and last year, approximately 95 percent of her students passed the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB exam, according to the Harford County School System.
In addition to her award, Potter received a variety of gifts and will compete for Maryland Teacher of the Year, which will be awarded in October.
