‘Building Greatness’ aims to take T.I.G.E.R.S. to the next level

The Towson University Athletics Department is focusing on its T.I.G.E.R.S. in its new strategic plan for the continued success and future improvement of TU Athletics.

Towson Athletics, under the leadership of Director of Athletics Tim Leonard, produced the document, titled “Building Greatness,” to introduce a strategic plan for operating a top-tier athletics program.

The document identifies the department’s core values with the acronym T.I.G.E.R.S. – Trust, Integrity, Greatness, Engagement, Respect and Students First. These six core values will guide the administration and staff in day-to-day and long-term decisions.

“As we put together our strategic plan and began looking at those core values… we thought ‘who are we and how can we use that to define ourselves?’” recalls Leonard. “And who are we? We’re the Tigers.”

“Building Greatness” also outlines six themes the administration and staff will pursue in alignment with the university’s TU2020 strategic plan:

  • Student-Athlete Well-Being and Competitive Excellence
  • Student-Athlete Academic Success
  • A Leader in Campus and Community Engagement
  • National Model for Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity
  • Championship-Quality Facilities
  • Fiscal Responsibility and Revenue Generation

“Towson Athletics’ vision will be achieved through strategic alignment and dynamic partnerships,” says Leonard. “The administration, coaches and student-athletes all have the same vision – to build greatness. Our strategic plan will be the blueprint for how we expect to achieve that.”
