Five awesome internships TU students completed this year

It’s internship week at Towson University, so naturally we’re taking a look back at some of the cool internships where our students positively represented TU this year.

TU senior Carly Gittler interned at Parmount Pictures in Los Angeles over the summer.

Story Intern at Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles, California

Name: Carly Gittler

Year, Major: Senior, Electronic Media and Film

Internship description: Assisting the story department, which consists of “readers” who read and analyze potential scripts

Memorable moment: “Exploring the Los Angeles area, from beach towns to Hollywood.”

Favorite thing about the internship: “We have a speaker series once a week where executives from the company or past interns who are now employed will come and talk to all of the interns for about an hour about what they do and how they got to where they are. It’s really eye opening.”

Legislative Intern at Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger’s Washington D.C. Office

Name: Omnia Shedid

Year, Major: Junior, Political Science

Internship description: Researching the impact of legislation, supporting the office in day-to-day tasks

Memorable moment: “Every time I have a bad day, I remember that I helped bring a mom and a dad to the United States to meet and reunite with their son, who they hadn’t seen for six years, for his master’s graduation.”

Favorite thing about the internship: Being able to follow her dreams of working in government. Shedid says she feels that she is making a difference by working with “an incredible man and a caring politician.”

Social Media Intern at AARP Maryland

Name: Brandon Edwards

Year: Senior, Electronic Media and Film

Internship description: Managing AARP Maryland’s Facebook and Twitter, taking photos and videos of events and writing blog posts

Memorable moment: Gathering a group of Towson students for AARP’s Celebration of Service to help make over one million meals for seniors, veterans and first responders in need

Favorite thing about the internship: “Working with the social media part of the internship, I gained valuable mass communication experience as an EMF major.”

Student Researcher with the Lee Teng Fellowship at Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, IL

Name: Nathan Prins

Year: Senior, Physics

Internship Description: Monitoring electromagnetic fields inside an accelerator cavity

Memorable moment: Flying to Rutgers University for a class on fundamental particle physics as part of the fellowship

Favorite thing about the internship: “There’s a lot of different projects going on at Argonne. It’s cool being around many diverse fields of science.”

Internship description: Writing press releases and communication plans, taking photos, planning and setting up events

Memorable moment: Helping plan an opening reception for the museum’s Jay Fleming Photography exhibit

Favorite thing about the internship: “All of the people there love what they do and are so interested in what’s going on at the museum. In addition to the staff, we have so many amazing volunteers that come just because they love the Chesapeake Bay and want to help preserve it and to help teach everything about it — the people, the lifestyles and the artifacts.”
