The Towson University nursing students at USMH attended the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on October 5, 2015. Professor Janet McMahon MSN, RN, ANEF arranged for her junior BSN nursing students to seek the scholarship opportunities necessary to become eligible to attend this professional development event. The Cara Massa Scholarship was awarded to 36 students who were able to attend this prestigious state conference.
The organization hosts the only statewide breast cancer conference designed for survivors, medical professionals, community and corporate leaders and legislators and advocates for the newest treatments and advances in healthcare.
Students were also able to meet the Potamkin Research Prize awardee Edith Mitchell, MD, FACP, clinical professor of medicine and medical oncology, president of the National Medical Association and brigadier general, USAF, from the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
